Teaching the Super Athletes unit

  • QCan people with longer legs jump farther?


    When we trialled the investigations we found that there was not a correlation between leg length and distance jumped. Is this the same for your class? The size and strength of your muscles is important in determining how far you can jump.

  • QHow do I use the pedometer?

    • - Clip the pedometer to a belt or waist band.
    • - Stand still and press the button on the front to reset the button on the front to reset the pedometer.
    • - Start walking!
    • - Be careful not to press the button as you walk.
    • - The pedometer will give you a good estimate of the number of steps you have taken.
  • QHow do I use the timer?


    - To start or stop the timer press the start/stop button.
    - To reset the timer press the min and sec buttons together.
    - To set a time use the min and sec buttons and press start.
    - To time someone reset the timer and press start.


Get In the Zone with Brazil 2014 and the Commonwealth Games!

After the huge success of London 2012 the sporting craze continues this summer with Brazil 2014 and, straight after the World Cup, we'll be hosting the Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

What a great opportunity to get ahead of the games and use your In the Zone kit to bring some of the excitement of these major sporting events into your classroom. You can use the kit to help your pupils discover the science behind the performance of elite footballers like Wayne Rooney, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and what happens in the bodies of top athletes such as Usain Bolt and Mo Farrar when they push themselves to the limit in their quest for gold.
